Woof, that takes some doing.  The taxable sub-total came to $41.44.  Retirement accounts came in hard with $78.28.  All in all, the portfolio pulled in $119.72 in income this month.

Interest clocked in at $8.62.  This doesn't include the "foundation" account which brought in $0.04, It's a pittance now, but give it a couple of years.  This is gonna be cool.

It was a seemingly light month on the purchase front.  There was one round of buys on Robinhood and I bought 1 share of Flowers Foods (FLO).

Luckily, Publix picked up the slack.  March is the month where the 401K match gets distributed, and we also get a dose of company stock.  It added a nice little kick to the balance sheet and the May dividends are going to be interesting.

That about wraps things up.  2024 continues to chug along and the "setup 2025" plan is going well so far.  We'll see how things progress as we move into the second quarter.

December 2023 Dividend Income

What better way to kick off the new year than to talk about dividends, am I right?  Dividends are awesome, December dividends especially so.  There's a lot to cover, so let's dive right in.

Kroger (KR): $2.05

J.M. Smucker (SJM): $0.22

Stag Industrial (STAG): $0.13

Vanguard US REIT Fund (VNQ): $1.17

iShares Core Growth ETF (DGRO): $4.84 ($0.40 taxable/$4.44 IRA)

McDonald's (MCD): $0.55

SpartanNash (SPTN): $1.14

VF Corp (VFC): $0.78

Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF (SCHD): $6.54 ($0.80 taxable/$5.74 IRA)

Invesco High Dividend Low Volatility ETF (SPHD): $0.18

T. Rowe Price Group (TROW): $4.88 (IRA)

American EuroPacific Growth: $30.55 (401K)

Baird Aggregate Bond Fund: $7.27 (401K)

T Rowe Price Value Fund: $59.44 (401K)

The taxable sub-total comes to a respectable $45.37.  Retirement accounts, however, pulled in $176.64.  That brings the grand total to $222.01.  A solid number, no doubt, but it's actually down quite a bit from last year.  The T Rowe Price value fund dipped quite a bit this year.  It's a bit sad, especially after a year of further contributions, but it is what it is.  Like I said, it's hard to complain about the current number.  It just means that I need to bolster the other positions to make up the difference.

Interest clocked in at $7.13

Not a bad month on the buying front.  There were two rounds on Robinhood, but over on E-Trade, I made single share buys of Realty Income (O), Main Street Capital (MAIN), Gold Share Hedged Bond ETF (GLDB), and WisdomTree (DON).  These are all monthly payers.  Some of these I already had in my Robinhood account, but the gold ETF is a new one.  I'm still continuing building up my IAU position, but this pays, so it seemed to be worth an add.  Hopefully, bolstering these will help pick up the slack after a largely dormant 2023.

What will 2024 bring?  Who's to say?

September 2023 Dividend Income

Q4 has officially kicked off.  What better way to start than by looking at the last month's dividends?  Quarter ends are usually pretty bangin'.  This should be fun, let's get to it.

Unilever (UL): $0.31

SJW: $3.84 ($0.80 taxable/$3.04 IRA)

Intel (INTC): $0.14

Kroger (KR): $2.03

JM Smucker (SJM): $0.22

Pfizer (PFE): $1.33

IBM: $0.18

Sherwin Williams (SHW): $1.21 (IRA)

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ): $0.70

AGNC: $1.47

Target (TGT): $0.50

Walgreen's Boots Alliance (WBA): $1.60

Emerson (EMR): $0.40

Flowers Foods (FLO): $1.58

Microsoft (MSFT): $0.04

NextEra Energy (NEE): $3.00   ($0.19 taxable/$2.81 IRA)

Chevron (CVX): $0.49

3M (MMM): $0.53

GlobalXSuperdividend (SDIV): $0.24

Hershey's (HSY): $2.38 (IRA)

ConEd (ED): $0.84

Kraft-Heinz (KHC): $2.00

Stag Industrial (STAG): $0.13

Stanley Black & Decker (SWK): $4.86 (IRA)

Kellogg (K): $0.89 (IRA)

Home Depot (HD): $4.18 (IRA)

Main Street Capital (MAIN): $0.57

Schwab US Dividend Equity Fund (SCHD): $5.73 ($0.70 taxable/$5.03 IRA)

McDonald's (MCD): $0.49

T. Rowe Price Group (TROW): $4.88 (IRA)

WisdomTree Midcap Dividend Fund (DON): $0.09

PepsiCo (PEP): $5.91 ($2.11 taxable/$3.80 IRA)

Nasdaq 100 Covered Call ETF (QYLD): $0.22

Scott's Miracle Gro (SMG): $7.92 (IRA)

Invesco High Dividend Low Volatility ETF (SPHD): $0.19

Exxon Mobil (XOM): $8.40  ($2.94 taxable/$5.46 IRA)

Lockheed Martin (LMT): $0.48

Baird Aggregate Bond Fund: $4.19 (401K)

DFA US Small Cap Fund: $2.47  (401K)

See? Bangin'.  The taxable sub-total comes to $40.55, which isn't too shabby.  Retirement accounts brought in $67.55.  That brings the grand total to $108.10.  $7 higher than last quarter, not bad considering it's been a light quarter as far as money moves go.  DRIP and dividend increases made a pretty good impact, I'd say.  If I had kept track of said dividend increases, I could list them, but I haven't really done that in quite a while.  I should, though, shouldn't I.

Interest clocked in at $4.47

Speaking of money moves, I did reinstate the dollar a day buys into the silver exchange (SLV).  Slowly, but surely, I'm getting back to where I was earlier in the year.  I also made single share buys of Wendy's (WEN) and VF Corp (VFC).  It wouldn't be mind-blowing overall, but considering the last few months, it was a fairly active one.

Hopefully, I'll be able to get back on track to close out the year.  There's still 3 months to put things into place.  2024 should be something of a tipping point year, so the more I can do to set it up, the better.

June 2023 Dividend Income: Total Defense

Q3/H2 of 2023 is officially underway.  As is tradition, we kick off the new month by looking back at the one that came before.  More specifically, we see what dividends came in, both because it's fun and because it's a good way to stay motivated as you fight to achieve financial freedom or just raise your fiscal power level in general.  With this being a quarter ending month, it should be a banger, so let's dive in to see how things played out.

GlobalXSuperdividend (SDIV): $0.44

Kroger (KR): $1.81

SJW: $3.84 ($0.80 taxable/$3.04 IRA)

Intel (INTC): $0.14

J.M. Smucker (SJM): $0.21

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ): $0.70

Sherwin Williams (SHW): $1.21 (IRA)

J.P. Morgan Exchange Traded Fund (JEPI): $2.92 (IRA)

AGNC: $1.41

Exxon Mobil (XOM): $8.55 ($2.92 taxable/$5.63 IRA)

Pfizer (PFE): $1.31

Microsoft (MSFT): $0.04

IBM: $0.18

3M (MMM): $0.49

Chevron (CVX): $0.49

iShares Core Dividend Growth ETF (DGRO): $3.40 ($0.28 taxable/$3.12 IRA)

Walgreen's Boots Alliance (WBA): $1.58

Northrop Grumman (NOC): $0.42 (IRA)

Realty Income (O): $8.94 ($6.64 taxable/$2.30 IRA)

Wendy's (WEN): $2.70

ConEd (ED): $0.84

Unilever (UL): $0.30

NextEra Energy (NEE): $2.99 ($0.18 taxable/$2.81 IRA)

Kellogg (K): $0.82 (IRA)

McDonald's (MCD): $0.46

Invesco High Dividend Low Volatility ETF (SPHD): $0.16

Lockheed Martin (LMT): $0.48

Vanguard High Dividend Yield ETF (VYM): $6.44 ($0.99 taxable/$5.45 IRA)

Stanley Black and Decker (SWK): $4.80 (IRA)

Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF (SCHD): $5.69 ($0.70 taxable/$4.99 IRA)

Nasdaq 100 Covered Call ETF (QYLD): $0.22

Vanguard Total Market ETF (VTI): $7.41  ($3.28 taxable/$4.13 IRA)

WisdomTree Midcap Dividend Fund (DON): $0.08

T. Rowe Price (TROW): $4.88 (IRA)

American Europacific Growth Fund: $2.82   (401K)

Baird Aggregate Bond Fund: $3.66    (401K)

DFA US Small Cap: $2.60     (401K)

Taxable sub-total comes out to $31.78.  Retirement comes to $69.77.  That brings the grand total to $101.55.   By the skin of my freaking teeth.  Still, crossing the threshold is crossing the threshold, no matter how narrow the margin is.  That's a win.  Now all that's left is to get the quarter opener to this level.

Oh, and interest clocked in at $3.79.

For frame of reference, check out last quarter's and last year's posts.

It was a pretty light month on the stock purchase front.  I made some paltry buys on Robinhood (which you can read about here and here.)   I also bought a share of Leggett & Platt (LEG) and $50 into Best Buy.

The portfolio has been updated accordingly.

All in all, not a bad way to kick off the second half of the year.  Hopefully, there will be a re-establishment of momentum in the months to come, but we'll see how things go.

March 2023 Dividend Income: Wolf Fang Fist!

The first quarter of the year is over and it was...bumpy.  The craziness just won't stop. I'm holding the line fairly well, all things considered.  I keep reading about how dire things are for a lot of other people and how they're draining savings and running up credit card debt.  Haven't had to resort to that, thankfully, but it's no cake walk.  In tumultuous times, you turn to your port in the storm; which, in this case, is dividends.  That's right, this is money companies pay you even if you don't work for them.  It's a pretty sweet arrangement.  I've been tracking them for some time now and it is, once again, time to log the numbers for the past month.  This being a quarter end, it's a highlight for most investors.  For a while, the mid-quarter was my shining month, but the tide has turned the past few quarters.  Will that trend continue? Let's find out and dive right in.

Kroger (KR): $1.79

SJW Group (SJW): $3.84  ($0.80 taxable/$3.04 IRA)

Intel (INTC): $0.41

J.M. Smucker (SJM): $0.20

Emerson (EMR): $0.33

Exxon Mobil (XOM): $8.35 ($2.89 taxable/$5.46 IRA)

Target (TGT): $0.44

Scott's Miracle Gro (SMG): $7.92 (IRA)

Walgreen's Boots Alliance (WBA): $1.55

ConEd (ED): $0.83

McDonald's (MCD): $0.44

Stag Industrial (STAG): $0.13

NextEra Energy (NEE): $2.95 ($0.14 taxable/$2.81 IRA)

Main Street Capital (MAIN): $0.43

Hershey's (HSY): $2.07 (IRA)

Flower's Foods (FLO): $1.49

VF Corp (VFC): $1.78

Unilever (UL): $0.26

Vanguard High Dividend Yield ETF (VYM): $5.10 ($0.80/$4.30 IRA)

Stanley Black & Decker (SWK): $4.80 (IRA)

Home Depot (HD): $4.18 (IRA)

Lockheed Martin (LMT): $0.45

Invesco High Dividend Low Volatility ETF (SPHD): $0.15

Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF (SCHD): $4.80  ($0.62 taxable/$4.18 IRA)

Vanguard Total Market ETF (VTI): $5.99  ($2.06 taxable/$3.93 IRA)

Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETF (VIG): $0.73

Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO): $3.40  ($0.43 taxable/$2.97 IRA)

Vanguard US REIT Fund (VNQ): $0.82

Domino's (DPZ): $0.11

Wisdom Tree (DON): $0.11

T. Rowe Price (TROW): $4.88 (IRA)

Baird Aggregate Bond Fund: $3.43 (401K)

DFA US Small Cap: $2.12

Whew, that's a doozy.  Ok, so the sub-total for the taxable income that can be used today came out to $32.69.  Not too bad.  The retirement income came out to $66.87.  That brings the grand total to $99.56.

Gah! So close! You're killin' me, Smalls, killin' me softly.  Actually, I'm happy with that number overall.  We're starting to see momentum building.

Interest clocked in at $2.97, so the overall passive income total does cross the 3 digit threshold.  Next quarter end is a lock, though

You're can already see the effect the Realty Income and VTI buys, which is kind of neat.

Speaking of buys, I maintained my plan and also made some buys on Robinhood (which you can read about here, here, and here.  I also threw in an impromptu buy for a share of Westrock (WRK).  Publix also kicked in with its PROFIT plan and 401k match.  I missed out on it last year, so it was nice to see it juice up the balance sheet again.  You can see the fairly recently updated portfolio post here.

While 2023 is living up to my prediction, the quarter end continues to shine.  It's good to see progress being made.  Just have to keep pressing onward.

December 2022 Dividend Income

2022 has officially wrapped.  From a macro standpoint, it was kind of a dumpster fire.  However, on the micro front, things went surprisingly smoothly.  The job consolidation ended up being a big boon and it enabled me to make fairly steady progress on both fiscal and physical fronts.  There may not have been any DBZ style leaps, but there was definite progression.  The MVP title has to go to Capital One.  Them doing away with their IRA savings accounts allowed me to move the needle in ways that I wouldn't have been able to otherwise. While I liked the security of the savings accounts, I do think this is better.  More growth and it isn't like the investments in those accounts are particularly risky so I don't need to sweat it.

Enough of that, though, this is the dividend post, so it stands to reason that we get to them.  December is always a showstopper for investors be they veterans or neophytes.  Last year's record breaker was a testament to that.  Will this month's live up to the hype?  Let's find out, shall we?

Kroger (KR): $1.78

SJW (SJW): $3.57 ($0.69 taxable/$2.88 IRA)

Intel (INTC): $0.41

JM Smucker (SJM): $0.20

Sherwin Williams: $1.20 (IRA)

Pfizer (PFE): $1.26

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ): $0.65

Unilever (UL): $0.20

AGNC: $1.31

JP Morgan Exchange Traded Fund (JEPI): $4.88 (IRA)

Scott's Miracle Gro (SMG): $7.92 (IRA)

Walgreen's Boots Alliance (WBA): $1.53

Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF (SCHD): $5.54 ($0.62 taxable/$4.92 IRA)

Target (TGT): $0.44

IBM: $0.18

3M (MMM): $0.48

Chevron (CVX): $0.44

GlobalXSuperdividend (SDIV): $0.13

Coca Cola (KO): $5.00 ($1.48 taxable/$3.52 IRA)

Realty Income (O): $3.62 ($1.39 taxable/$2.23 IRA)

Wendy's (WEN): $1.33

Main Street Capital (MAIN): $0.26

ConEd (ED): $0.69

NextEra Energy (NEE): $2.64 ($0.09 taxable/$2.55 IRA)

Stag Industrial (STAG): $0.13

McDonald's (MCD): $0.42

Home Depot (HD): $3.80 (IRA)

Hershey's (HSY): $2.07 (IRA)

Flowers Foods (FLO): $1.48

iShares Core Dividend Growth ETF (DGRO): $4.29 ($0.35 taxable/$3.94 IRA)

VF Corp (VFC): $2.77

Vanguard Utilities ETF (VPU): $0.59

Vanguard High Dividend Yield ETF (VYM): $6.93 ($1.08 taxable/$5.85 IRA)

Stanley Black & Decker (SWK): $4.80 (IRA)

Invesco High Dividend Low Volatility ETF (SPHD): $0.15

Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETF (VIG): $0.68

Vanguard S&P 500 Growth ETF (VOOG): $0.08

Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO): $3.82 ($0.48 taxable/$3.34 IRA)

Vanguard Total Market ETF (VTI): $5.29 ($0.64/$4.65 IRA)

Vanguard US REIT Fund (VNQ): $1.22

Wisdom Tree (DON): $0.11

T. Rowe Price (TROW): $4.80 (IRA)

Kraft-Heinz (KHC): $1.77

SpartanNash (SPTN): $1.08

Lockheed Martin (LMT): $0.45

Domino's (DPZ): $0.10

T. Rowe Price Value Fund: $114.39  (401K)

American EuroPacific Growth: $7.48 (401K)

Baird Aggregate Bond Fund: $3.52 (401K)

So, when all is said and done, I received a moderate $32.44 in taxable accounts.  Retirement contributions on the other hand, threw in $219.32.  Grand total comes to a whopping $251.76.  That is how you end a year.  It didn't quite hit the 2X mark compared to last year, but it was pretty darn close.  That T. Rowe Price fund in the 401K is mind blowing.  The growth isn't quite what it was last year, but that's still a pretty sizable leap.  Of course, now one can't help but wonder what next year's number will look like.  But we have a way to go before that point and quite a lot to do in the meantime.

Interest clocked in at $2.20

Aside from DRIP and 401K contributions, there were no buys this month.  Crazy, right?  I was expecting a sizable expense in regard to the car, but thankfully, that turned out to be fairly minor.  I also thought it best to build up a cash supply to give myself a buffer for the year, both for the looming macro threats as well as the endeavors that I laid out for myself.

I'm not sure the mid-quarters can keep up with this, to be honest.  It's a little sad.  It put up a valiant fight and held the title for quite some time, but it seems like December has cemented itself as the record breaker for the years to come.  Maybe one year, I'll focus my stock buys exclusively on mid-quarter payers to bring it back into the fight, but that's something to ponder later on down the line.

Let's see what we can do in 2023.  There will be headwinds, to be sure.  This may be the toughest year to date, but there's still a way to win.

September 2022 Dividend Income: I Don't Want to Come Back Down From This Cloud

We move one step closer to the end of 2022.  In fact, we enter the final stretch as the fourth quarter of the year begins.  For most investors, the quarter end is the highlight month for dividends.  Historically for me, that hasn't been the case, but things can always change and 2022 has been pretty crazy, so an upheaval wouldn't be that surprising.  Will it turn out to be the case?  Let's find out, shall we?

Kroger (KR): $1.74

SJW: $3.52

Intel (INTC): $0.28

Unilever (UL): $0.17

JM Smucker (SJM): $0.19

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ): $0.61

Pfizer (PFE): $1.25

Microsoft (MSFT): $0.03

Emerson (EMR): $0.33

Exxon Mobil (XOM): $7.81

Yum (YUM): $0.17

Lumen (LUMN): $1.44

Walgreen’s Boots Alliance (WBA): $1.04

AGNC: $1.27

Target (TGT): $0.41

Chevron (CVX): $0.41

3M (MMM): $0.47

GlobalXSuperdividend (SDIV): $0.14

Realty Income (O): $3.54

Wendy’s (WEN): $1.32

ConEd (ED): $0.57

Main Street Capital (MAIN): $0.13

Stag Industrial (STAG): $0.10

NextEra Energy (NEE): $2.61

Hershey’s (HSY): $2.07

Home Depot (HD): $3.80

McDonald’s (MCD): $0.34

Flowers Foods (FLO): $1.46

VF Corp (VFC): $1.69

Vanguard Dividend Appreciation Fund (VIG): $0.50

Vanguard High Dividend Yield Fund (VYM): $5.45

Kraft Heinz (KHC): $1.75

Invesco High Dividend Low Volatility ETF (SPHD): $0.11

Lockheed Martin (LMT): $0.40

Schwab US Dividend Equity Fund (SCHD): $4.89

Main Street Capital (MAIN): $0.06

Nasdaq 100 Covered Call ETF (QYLD): $0.19

Vanguard Total Market ETF (VTI): $4.48

Vanguard REIT Fund (VNQ): $0.95

Wisdom Tree (DON): $0.05

Schwab US Dividend Equity fund (SCHD): $4.46

T.Rowe Price (TROW): $4.80

That brings the sub-total to a whopping $67.  This does include IRA dividends as well.  I'll need to figure out a way to separate those at some point.  So, no, that's not a taxable sub-total.  Still a pretty hefty chunk of change, especially in comparison to last quarter and last year.

The 401K also threw in a little bit

Baird Aggregate Bond fund: $2.08

DFA US Small Cap: $1.63

That sub-total comes to $3.71

All in all, dividends clocked in at $70.71.  That is how you end a quarter. It even beat the most recent mid-quarter total.  Those IRA buys clearly made a difference and set things right, allowing the quarter end to reclaim its throne.... well for now anyway.  In the meantime, though, I'm really looking forward to seeing what sort of numbers December ends up presenting.  Considering the humdigger last year's was, this one should be quite a bit of fun.  Admittedly, I was hyped before, but with these IRA moves, it just makes it that much more enticing.

Interest clocked in at $1.21.  Yeah, the contrast between saving and investing is pretty stark.  Still, it's better than nothing and Current is starting to pick up steam.  I'm at semi-daily payments now.  Sure, it's just a penny here and there, but momentum is momentum.

I welcome any positive movement, especially as the balance sheet got clobbered this past month.  Diminished assets and higher liabilities; no bueno.  This coming month is going to be even worse on that front.  I'm going to do what I can to cushion the blow, but it'll still be pretty fugly.

Will still be investing what I can, of course.  These downturns are a bit of a gut-punch, and it can be frustrating to work and invest only to see the numbers shrink, but you just have to think of that fiscal zenkai boost that'll come when the market does bounce back.

Speaking of investing, that acts as a nice segue to the next portion of the post.

In addition to the buys on Robinhood (which you can read about here, here, here, and here) I also made single share purchases of Paramount Global (PARA), AT&T (T), and Walgreen's Boots Alliance (WBA) over on E-Trade.

Over in the IRA's, I bought 6 shares of Stanley Black & Decker (SWK), 7 shares of Schwab's US Dividend Equity Fund (SCHD), 8 shares of JP Morgan ETF Trust (JEPI), 4 shares of Kimberly Clark (KMB), 12 shares of Scott's Miracle Gro (SMG), and 12 shares of iShares Core Dividend Growth ETF (DGRO).

I also sold off my position in Store Capital (STOR) after hearing that they were being sold.  I don't think I ended up getting a dividend from them, which is a shame (especially since they announced one last dividend increase shortly after,) but the announcement did drive the price up, so I got a pretty good return on that front.  That did help pay for one of those buys, though I honestly don't remember which one off the top of my head.

That marks the last of the IRA capital.  It's sad.  I'm not going to lie, that was fun.  Now all I can do is wait for the dividends to replenish the cash supply until it hits a point where I can make a substantial buy.  I mean, technically, now that I have a working printer, I can put money in, but truth be told, I'll be firing money in so many directions over the next year or so that I don't mind putting that on hold for a little while.  At least that prevents me from having to set up another account either on E-trade or somewhere else.

The portfolio has been updated accordingly.

September was an interesting month overall.  There's still one quarter left to go.  Plenty of time to move the needle and set the stage for 2023.

July 2022 Dividend Income: Where the Hell Did You Come From!?

Like sand through the hourglass, these are the dividends of July.

PepsiCo (PEP): $1.74 (+$0.22 QoQ,  +$0.40 YoY)

SpartanNash (SPTN): $1.06 (+$0.21 QoQ)

Nasdaq 100 Covered Call ETF (QYLD): $0.39 (+$0.29 QoQ, +$0.36 YoY)

Wisdom Tree (DON): $0.09 (+$0.06 QoQ, +$0.08 YoY)

Main Street Capital (MAIN): $0.14 (+$0.09 QoQ, +$0.12 YoY)

Dominos (DPZ): $0.08 (+$0.06 YoY)

Invesco High Dividend Low Volatility ETF (SPHD): $0.20 (+$0.05 QoQ)

Coca Cola (KO): $1.42 (+$0.49 QoQ, +$0.57 YoY)

Paramount Global (PARA): $1.22 (+$0.01 QoQ)

Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO): $1.77

Kimberly Clark (KMB): $1.21 (+$0.01 QoQ, +$0.06 YoY)

Iron Mountain (IRM):  $3.73 (+$0.04 QoQ, +$0.19 YoY)

HP (HPQ): $0.09 (+$0.01 QoQ)

AGNC: $1.24 (+$0.65 QoQ, +$0.91 YoY)

GlobalXSuperdividend (SDIV): $0.14 (+$0.03 QoQ, +$0.10 YoY)

Realty Income (O): $1.31 (+$0.05 QoQ, +$0.22 YoY)

Stag Industrial (STAG): $0.09 (+$0.02 QoQ, +$0.07 YoY)

Franklin Resources (BEN): $2.60 (+$0.03 QoQ, +$0.18 YoY)

Leggett & Platt (LEG): $1.37 (+$0.08 QoQ, +$0.73 YoY)

Best Buy (BBY): $6.54 (+$0.07 QoQ, +$1.49 YoY)

McCormick (MKC): $0.04 (+$0.03 QoQ)

That brings the sub-total to $26.47, which is up $3.69 from last quarter, but down $7.62 from last year.  That's due to Publix's dividend being off, so I can let it slide....this time.

That's just the sub-total, though. We've still got 401K dividends to cover.

DFA US Small Cap: $1.35

 Baird Aggregate Bond Fund: $1.71

That sub-total comes to $3.06.  Put em together and the grand total comes to $29.53.  So close to the $30 threshold, but no cigar.  Will happen next quarter, though.

Interest clocked in at $0.69.

In addition to the buys on Robinhood (which you can read about here, here, here, and here) I also made single share buys into Paramount Global (PARA), Wendy's (WEN), AT&T (T), and Franklin Resources (BEN).

But I didn't stop there.  Nope, I also picked up 9 shares of Realty Income (O), 2 shares of Vanguard's Total Market ETF (VTI), 19 shares of Store Capital (STOR), 8 shares of Coca Cola (KO), 6 shares of Exxon Mobil (XOM), 6 shares of NextEra Energy (NEE), 10 shares of Campbell's (CPB), and 10 shares of Verizon (VZ).

So, in the middle of June, Capital One did away with their IRA savings accounts. "Custodianship" was relinquished and passed elsewhere (ie. the accounts were moved to another financial institution.)  The huge perk here is that all the money that I had been slipping into those accounts the past 3 or so years that was just sitting as cash collecting interest can now be pumped into the market.  This is also why the interest payment is substantially lower than it has been.

There are, however, quite a few downsides.  This place is a bit of a dinosaur as it still charges per-trade commissions (hence the larger buys which stand in stark contrast to my more usual scattershot investment approach,) has no automatic dividend reinvestment option, and doesn't even have online deposits.  If I want to put money in, I have to print out a form and mail them a check. It's not the best.

Hopefully, they get their act together, but in the meantime, I've got some money to play with.  I've been doing about $500ish from each of the two accounts each week, so I am hanging with the big dogs for the nonce.  If I maintain this pace (which I see no reason why I wouldn't,) I've got about two more months' worth of capital left, then I'll have to wait for the dividends to replenish them before I can make more moves in those accounts.

This is gonna be fun.  Should also see a decent spike in the numbers going forward.  It's good because there are times lately where it feels like the numbers have been stagnating.  This could provide a decent jumpstart to the proceedings.

After a month like that, I of course, had to update the portfolio, which I did.  You can read it here.

Kicked the second half of the year off with a pretty good bang if I do say so myself.  There's still five more months to move the needle.  Let's see what we can do.

March 2022 Dividend Income: Sneak Attack

And just like that, the first quarter of the year is done.  With the passage of another month, comes another dividend post.  I know, you might be thinking that, given the date, that some sort of joke will come into play, but such is not the case here.  These numbers, for better or worse, are quite real.  As such, let's dive in, shall we?

Kroger (KR): $1.34  (same QoQ, +$0.21 YoY)

SJW Group (SJW): $0.50 (+$0.09 QoQ, +$0.15 YoY)

Invesco High Dividend Low Volatility ETF (SPHD): $0.07 (+$0.03 QoQ)

J.M. Smucker (SJM): $0.16 (+$0.08 QoQ)

Intel (INTC): $0.13 (+$0.08 QoQ)

Nasdaq Covered Call ETF (QYLD): $0.15 (+$0.09 QoQ)

Pfizer (PFE): $0.83 (+$0.03 QoQ, +$0.44 YoY)

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ): $0.42 (+$0.10 QoQ, +$0.30 YoY)

AGNC: $0.56 (+$0.08 QoQ, +$0.26 YoY)

Exxon Mobil (XOM): $2.23 (+$1.04 QoQ, $1.39 YoY)

IBM: $0.11 (+$0.10 QoQ)

Emerson (EMR): $0.25 (+$0.05 QoQ, +$0.15 YoY)

Target (TGT): $0.21 (+$0.05 QoQ, +$0.15 YoY)

Chevron (CVX): $0.29 (+$0.14 QoQ)

Microsoft (MSFT): $0.03 (+$0.01 QoQ)

Walgreen's Boots Alliance (WBA): $1.01 (+$0.01 QoQ, +$0.05 YoY)

Yum! (YUM): $0.13 (+$0.05 QoQ)

GlobalXSuperdividend ETF (SDIV): $0.08 (+$0.02 QoQ, +$0.06 YoY)

3M (MMM): $0.35 (+$0.08 QoQ, +$0.22 YoY)

Stag Industrial (STAG): $0.06 ($0.03 QoQ)

ConEd (ED): $0.46 (+$0.10 QoQ, +$0.29 YoY)

Realty Income (O): $1.25 (+$0.07 QoQ, +$0.21 YoY)

McDonald's (MCD): $0.18 (-$0.04 QoQ, +$0.05 YoY)

Main Street Capital (MAIN): $0.05  (+$0.02 QoQ)

Wendy's (WEN): $1.18 (+$0.05 QoQ, +$0.44 YoY)

Flowers Foods (FLO): $1.37 (+$0.01 QoQ, +$0.30 YoY)

Lumen Technologies (LUMN): $1.14 (+$0.27 QoQ, +$0.59 YoY)

VF Corp (VFC): $1.09 (+$0.01 QoQ, +$0.09 YoY)

Vanguard High Dividend Yield ETF (VYM): $0.70 (-$0.13 QoQ, +$0.36 YoY)

Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETF (VIG): $0.39 (+$0.02 QoQ, +$0.27 YoY)

Kraft-Heinz (KHC): $1.67 (+$0.44 QoQ, +$1.27 YoY)

Lockheed Martin (LMT): $0.30 (+$0.11 QoQ)

Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI): $0.35 (-$0.02 QoQ, +$0.19 YoY)

Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF (SCHD): $0.21

Vanguard US REIT Fund (VNQ): $0.47 (-$0.22 QoQ, +$0.29 YoY)

Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO): $0.28 (+$0.01 QoQ)

Vanguard S&P 500 Growth ETF (VOOG): $0.05

Vanguard Utilities ETF (VPU): $0.44 (+$0.07 QoQ)

Domino's Pizza (DPZ): $0.07 (+$0.02 QoQ)

iShares Core Dividend Growth ETF (DGRO): $0.15

Wisdom Tree (DON): $0.03

That brings the total up to $20.72, which is down from last quarter.  While there were some negatives in the core portfolio as far as quarterlies go, the real hit was not having that Orion dividend. As I noted when I got it, that payment was a fluke. Still, even with that hit, I broke $20.  May not be much, but that's Netflix and Hulu, or a trip to the gas station.  On the plus side, it just about doubled from last year.

Over in the 401K, the dividends were as follows.

Baird Aggregate Bond Fund: $1.20 (-$0.77 QoQ, +$0.43 YoY)

DFA US Small Cap Index: $0.73 (-$23.33 QoQ)

Yeeah, that's the downside of having big numbers in December.  Just as they skyrocketed, so too do they come crashing back down in the next quarter.

That sub-total for the 401K comes to $1.93.

Add it all together and we get a grand total of $22.65.

Interest payments clocked in at $4.46

3M, Yum, and Wendy's all came in with dividend increases. Granted, two of those are Robinhood positions; so the effect is negligible, but it's still something.

Speaking of Robinhood, I made buys.  You can read about them here, here, here, here, and here.  In addition to that, I made single share buys of SpartanNash (SPTN), Paramount Global (PARA, which was formerly ViacomCBS), Pfizer (PFE), People's United Bank (PBCT), and Tanger Factory Outlet (SKT) over on E-Trade.

The portfolio has been updated accordingly.

No Publix stock this time around.  That post-2020 aftershock I was expecting last year decided to wait a bit.  Actually, I just misunderstood the time table.  It's a setback, no doubt, but it's one that can be overcome.  Just have to shake it off and move forward.  On the plus side, it will be an isolated incident that never happens again.

Still nine months left in the year, plenty of time to make moves, get momentum, and set our future selves up.

December 2021 Dividend Income: The Sleeper Has Awakened

Well, hello there.  We haven't caught up in a spell.  As I noted on the other page, my computer suffered a literal blue screen of death, forcing me into a bit of a hiatus.  I am back now, however, and eager to jump back into the fray.  It's a good thing too; while I did miss a mid-quarter post, December's numbers are always fascinating to see due to the 401K delivering substantial payouts.  With the DGI community gunning for that cumulative $100K milestone, it'll be interesting to see what will be brought to the table from this neck of the woods.  With that, let's get right to it.

Nasdaq Covered Call ETF (QYLD): $0.04 (+$0.01 QoQ

Intel (INTC): $0.05 (+$0.04 QoQ)

J.M. Smucker (SJM): $0.08 (+$0.02 QoQ,

SJW Group (SJW): $0.41 (+$0.02 QoQ, +$0.08 YoY)

Kroger (KR): $1.34 (+$0.01 QoQ,

Pfizer (PFE): $0.80 (Same QoQ, +$0.42 YoY)

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ): $0.32 (+$0.02 QoQ, +$0.26 YoY)

AGNC: $0.48 (+$0.03 QoQ, +$0.34 YoY)

Microsoft (MSFT): $0.02

Exxon Mobil (XOM): $1.19 (+$0.10 QoQ, +$0.32 YoY)

Lumen Technologies (LUMN): $0.87 (+$0.05 QoQ, +$0.58 YoY)

Walgreen's Boots Alliance (WBA): $1.00 (+$0.01 QoQ, +$0.05 YoY)

IBM: $0.01

Emerson (EMR): $0.20 (+$0.02 QoQ, +$0.16 YoY)

Target (TGT): $0.16 (+$0.02 QoQ, +$0.13 YoY)

Chevron (CVX): $0.15 (+$0.07 QoQ)

Yum! Brands (YUM): $0.08 (+$0.01 QoQ)

Schwab Equity ETF (SCHD): $0.09

3M (MMM): $0.27 (+$0.02 QoQ, +$0.20 YoY)

GlobalXSuperdividend (SDIV): $0.06 (+$0.02 QoQ)

Orion Office REIT (ONL): $7.58

Main Street Capital (MAIN): $0.03

ConEd (ED): $0.36 (+$0.03 QoQ, +$0.26 YoY)

Stag Industrial (STAG): $0.03 (+$0.01 QoQ)

McDonald's (MCD): $0.22 (+$0.03 QoQ, +$0.17 YoY)

Realty Income (O): $1.18 (+$0.08 QoQ, +$0.18 YoY)

Coca Cola (KO): $0.86

Wendy's (WEN): $1.13 (+$0.01 QoQ, +$0.62 YoY)

iShares Dividend Growth ETF (DGRO): $0.10

Flowers Foods (FLO): $1.36 (+$0.30 YoY)

Kraft Heinz (KHC): $1.23 (+$0.01 QoQ, +$0.63 YoY)

VF Corp (VFC): $1.08 (+$0.06 QoQ, +$0.09 YoY)

Vanguard Utilities ETF (VPU): $0.37 ($0.33 YoY)

Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETF (VIG): $0.37 (+$0.08 QoQ, +$0.32 YoY)

Vanguard High Dividend Yield ETF (VYM): $0.83 (+$0.24 QoQ, +$0.66 YoY)

Lockheed Martin (LMT): $0.19 (+$0.05 QoQ)

Vanguard S&P 500 Growth ETF (VOOG): $0.03

Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO): $0.27 (+$0.20 YoY)

Vanguard US REIT Fund (VNQ): $0.69 (+$0.34 QoQ, +$0.53 YoY)

Wisdom Tree (DON): $0.04 (+$0.02 QoQ and YoY)

Invesco High Dividend Low Volatility ETF (SPHD): $0.04

SpartanNash (SPTN): $0.60

That brings the sub-total to $26.63, which is up $12.82 from last quarter and up $17.23 from last year. Now, granted, that Orion dividend is a fluke.  I don't have a position in that company.  Oddly enough, this isn't the first time that's happened.  It's very bizarre, but I'm not going to question it.

Now, onto the main event of the December dividend post, the 401K numbers.

DFA US Small Cap: $24.06 (+$22.85 YoY)

Baird Aggregate Bond Fund: $1.97 As was the case last year, the dividend was split across two paydays.  I decided to just lump them together this time around for simplicity's sake

American EuroPacific Growth: $19.22 (+$18.06 YoY)

T. Rowe Price: $88.98 (+76.18 YoY)

*Does spit take*

Jeebus.  Those numbers and that growth is absurd.

That sub-total comes to $134.23

*Does spit take*

Grand total comes to...160.86

*Does spit take*

Stop it!

Sorry.   Those numbers.  Just wow.  And this is not too long after I said that the 401K wasn't the dividend engine I thought it could be.  I think I made it angry.  I'd apologize, but I kind of like it when it's angry.

So, yeah.  That's a new record.  I've said that the day could come when December surpassed the mid-quarters but I didn't expect anything like that.  That wasn't even close.  Mid-quarters got curb-stomped.  Here I was hyped to break the $50 threshold and we blow past the triple digits instead.

Oh, and interest clocked in at $3.55

In addition to the buys on Robinhood (which you can read about here, here, here, here, and here) I also made single share buys over on E-Trade for Kraft Heinz (KHC), People's United Bank (PBCT), Tanger Outlet (SKT), Omega Health (OHI), and Westrock (WRK). Nothing too crazy in terms of price, but still a pretty active month.

It might seem a little strange that I hit the mid-quarter payers that hard.  You'd think it would be to close this newfound gap, but there's another reason.  Though, maybe that could be a goal for the year?   We'll see.

2021 certainly went out with a bang.  I don't see that being broken anytime soon. It'll be interesting to see what next December's numbers look like.  I highly doubt there will be that kind of growth, but I still can't help but be curious.  We've got a ways to go before that point.  2022 has only just begun.  As Al Bundy used to always say....let's rock.

September 2021 Dividend Income: The Batch is Back

And just like that, we turn another page on the calendar and enter into the fourth quarter of the year. We're starting to enter into season, which means that things will be kicking into high gear as the snowbirds start to make their return.  The whole "downtime" thing didn't really play out this year, but it did make things a heck of a lot easier as far as cash flow was concerned.  It was probably the easiest off-season to date on that front.

With another month starting, we continue the custom of looking back at the dividends of the month prior.  This is a quarter end, which is usually the investors' peak month.  It should be noted, that it's usually my weakest because my portfolio is bizarro.  Still, I have had a good run of $30+ months the past few rounds, so we'll just have to see what happens.  With that, let's get to it.

Kroger (KR): $1.33 (+$0.29 QoQ, +$0.21 YoY)

SJW Group (SJW): $0.39 (+$0.02 QoQ, +$0.07 YoY)

Intel (INTC): $0.01

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ): $0.30 (+$0.08 QoQ, +$0.27 YoY)

Microsoft (MSFT): $0.01

AGNC: $0.45 (+$0.13 QoQ, +$0.31 YoY)

Exxon Mobil (XOM): $1.09 (+$0.08 QoQ)

Lumen Technologies (LUMN): $0.82 (+$0.26 QoQ, +$0.54 YoY)

Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA): $0.99 (+$0.02 QoQ, +$0.52 YoY)

Chevron (CVX): $0.08 (+$0.04 QoQ)

IBM: $0.04

Yum! (YUM): $0.07 (+$0.03 QoQ)

Emerson (EMR): $0.18 (+$0.01 QoQ, +$0.14 YoY)

Target (TGT): $0.14 (+$0.04 QoQ)

3M (MMM): $0.25 (+$0.03 QoQ, +$0.21 YoY)

Global X Superdividend (SDIV): $0.04 (same as last quarter)

Realty Income (O): $1.10 (+$0.02 QoQ, +$0.11 YoY, same as last month)

Wendy's (WEN): $1.12 (+$0.29 QoQ, +$0.76 YoY)

ConEd (ED): $0.33 (+$0.03 QoQ)

STAG Industrial (STAG): $0.02 (+$0.01 QoQ)

McDonald's (MCD): $0.19 (+$0.01 QoQ, +$0.16 YoY)

Main Street Capital (MAIN): $0.02

VF Corp (VFC): $1.02 (+$0.01 QoQ, +$0.53 YoY)

Vanguard High Dividend Yield ETF (VYM): $0.59 (+$0.07 QoQ, +$0.52 YoY)

Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETF (VIG): $0.29 (+$0.05 QoQ)

Kraft-Heinz (KHC): $1.22 (+$0.41 QoQ)

Vanguard US REIT Fund (VNQ): $0.35 (+$0.03 QoQ)

Wisdom Tree Midcap Dividend Fund (DON): $0.02 (same as last month and quarter)

That brings the sub-total in the taxable accounts to $13.81.  That's +$0.82 from last quarter and +$8.38 from last year.

Only one fund in the 401K did anything this time around.  The Baird Aggregate Bond fund threw in $0.92, bringing the grand total to $14.73.

All in all, not too shabby.  It's down quite a bit from last quarter, but with two bi-annual payers sitting out, it's to be expected.  Quite a bit of growth everywhere else, though.  You can especially see it in the year over year numbers.  The Robinhood buys are starting to add up and Kroger, Wendy's, and Walgreens brought dividend increases to the table.

Another $30 month would have been nice, especially with the DGI blogger community itching to break the $100K threshold.  It kind of feels like I Yamcha'd it, but it's probably better to focus on the positive aspects of the month.  December's numbers will be much better, I assure you.

Interest clocked in at $2.88.  It's still less than it was last year, but I am noticing an upward trend in that number again.  Could compound interest still be a thing after all?  We'll just have to watch and see.

In addition to the Robinhood buys (which you can read about here, here, here, and here), I also made single share buys on E-Trade for Flowers Foods (FLO), Hormel (HRL), People's United Bank (PBCT), and SpartanNash (SPTN).  We're only one month in, but that batch expansion is working out pretty nicely so far.

The portfolio has been updated accordingly.

The focus for Q4 is going to be to try to create as clean a slate for 2022 as possible.  It's already looking like it's going to be a packed year, so any head start I can create will be a boon. Among other things, I'm really aiming to max out my IRA contributions by the end of December.  From a mathematical standpoint, it might not make sense, as those are savings accounts with the expected interest rates.  Still, there are tax perks to be had and starting the year without having to worry about catch up contributions will make things quite a bit smoother.  We'll see if I can pull it off.

June 2021 Dividend Income: Quarter End Came to Play

Give me the beat, boys, and free my soul.  I want to get lost....in dividends. Yes, another month has passed and we are officially in the second half and/or the third quarter of 2021.  As such, it's time to log the dividends.  Now, for most, the quarter end is the big, high paying month.  Historically, however, the quarter end is my weakest of the bunch.  It's bizarro, but it still seems to be working.  Could this month throw a curve ball?  Let's find out, shall we?

That brings the sub-total in the taxable accounts to $12.99, up $2.58 from last quarter and up $7.93 from last year.

Of course, now we have to cover the 401K, those dividends are as follows

Baird Aggregate Bond Fund: $0.91

DFA US Small Cap Fund: $0.80

American EuroPacific Growth Fund: $15.54

Two of these are bi-annual payers, having paid in December, but not in March.  The small cap fund is actually down a bit.  That Europacific Growth fund, though,  I don't know where that number came from.  It paid a little more than a dollar six months ago.  Maybe some kind of special dividend came into play.  It doesn't give me specifics.  We'll have to see what happens both in December and next June.  We could have a fifth mid-quarter month on our hands.  I find it hard to believe that type of spike  (or even that kind of number this early) is going to be a routine occurrence, but we'll see what happens.

The 401K chipped in $17.25 total.

Adding these together, we get a grand total of $30.24 in dividend income this month.

Interest chipped in $2.71

The buys on Robinhood were lighter than usual (you can read about those here, here, here, here and here).  However, the E-Trade account tagged in and provided a bit of momentum of its own.  In that wing, I added single shares of Kinder Morgan (KMI), AT&T (T), and a new position, SpartanNash (SPTN).

The portfolio hasn't been updated yet.  Enough moves have been made where one is warranted, I just haven't had the chance to actually sit down and do it.  It should happen some time in the near future, though.

All in all, this was a strong ending for the first half of the year.  Not a record breaker, but a worthy showing that is more fitting of the quarter ends that other investors may be used to.
